Former AFL player Harley Balic Dies at 25- What Happened With Him!

Former Fremantle midfielder Harley Balic has died just days after turning 25, becoming the third former Docker to pass away in the past four years.

Balic, whose death isn’t being treated as suspicious, was labelled the steal of the 2015 national draft after being selected by Fremantle with pick No.38.

He booted three goals from four games in 2017 before being granted personal leave. A homesick Balic was traded to Melbourne at the end of that season, but he failed to play a game for the Demons and announced his retirement in August, 2018.

A talented junior basketballer, he began his football career with Mordialloc Braeside in Melbourne’s south-east before becoming All-Australian at under-18 level.

On Sunday, just days after turning 25, he died alone in a hotel in Highett – in Melbourne’s southeast.

While the cause of Balic’s death is not being treated as suspicious by Victoria Police, the state coroner will not be able to confirm what is widely suspected as his cause of death for some time.

He was then traded to the Demons for Pick 65 in the 2017 trade period, but announced his sudden retirement after one year on Melbourne’s list as he no longer had the passion to play the game.

Harley Bennell, who was at the Dockers during Balic’s two seasons with the club, posted an image to his Instagram account of him, Balic and former Docker Shane Yarran, who passed away in April 2018, with the caption: “Rest easy my 2 brothers.”
